2012 New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star® INCENTIVE Fact Sheet 

 Home Performance with Energy Star® (HPwES) offers "whole-house" solutions to improve your comfort, reduce both your energy costs and carbon footprint.  Installing energy efficient upgrades can save you up to 60% of energy consumption while increasing the comfort and durability of your home.

 The HPwES Program is available to all New Jersey's natural gas and electric utility customers and, through funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), to municipal electric, oil, and propane customers.

 The first step is to schedule an energy assessment (audit) of your home's current conditions.  One of Freedom Solar Energy's certified technicians will conduct the audit, recommend energy efficiency updates, and explain the available HPwES financial incentives. 

 For a limited time the program offers generous incentives to homeowners based on the home's estimated Total Energy Savings (TES) as a result of installing energy efficient measures.  Freedom Solar Energy, LLC uses the programs software to calculate the heating and electricity energy savings as a percentage of your annual consumption.  If the percentage of savings achieves 25% or higher, the project qualifies for a $5,000 rebate and the 0% interest financing.

 2011 HPwES Incentives for Single Family or Townhouse projects.

*Example: If your project achieved 10% TES and you paid $2,500 for the eligible measures, you would receive $2,000 rebate; or, if you only paid $1,700, you would receive a 50% rebate of $850.

 If you have already received a HPwES rebate for a particular property, you will only be eligible for additional incentives if you have not exceeded the above incentive caps.

 Loan & Repayment Options for Single Family or Townhouse projects.

 0% loan up to $5,000 available through Energy Finance Solutions (EFS).  To be eligible, you project must achieve a 10% TES or higher. 

 0% loan up to $10,000 available through Energy Finance Solutions (EFS).  To be eligible, you project must achieve a 20% TES or higher.

• 0% On-bill Repayment Program (OBRP) up to $10,000 available through the New Jersey Natural Gas(NJNG).  To be eligible, you must be a NJNG customer and your project must achieve 10% TES or higher.  NJNG OBRP applications are available from Freedom Solar Energy, LLC.

  FINANCING OPTIONS

 The New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star® Program offers different financing options at low interest rates but specific features and requirements vary.  For the purpose of calculating the maximum loan amount, Freedom Solar Energy, LLC shall use the cost of the project minus any other available incentives from other programs for the installation of high efficiency equipment and appliances.

 ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

 Home Performance with Energy Star® offers a 50% work scope incentive of up to $5,000.  The balance of the cost, up to $10,000, can be financed with the low-interest loan offered through the Program.  These costs can also be included in the portion of the work scope being subsidized through the Home Performance work scope subsidy.  Qualified Eligible Accessories include: hydronic distribution parts, ductwork, grills, diffusers, chimney liners, mechanical air cleaners, and programmable thermostats as part of an installation of a qualified central HVAC upgrade.  Service contracts and extended warranties are eligible for incorporation into a reduced interest rate loan offered through the Program.

• Accessory items included in work scopes that involve fuel switching (for example electric baseboard heating to natural gas furnace) are eligible for incorporation into a reduced interest loan offered through the Program, provided the new heating system is installed through the Home Performance with Energy Star®, is an eligible measure.  Examples of these fuel switching accessories are: gas main extension, service laterals, and piping.
• Services associated with the eligible improvements (Home Energy Audit, Blower door test, or construction management) are eligible for incorporation into a reduced interest rate loan offered through the Program and the Home Performance work scope subsidy incentives.  Freedom Solar Energy, LLC an accredited participating Home Performance with Energy Star® Contractor must perform these services.

 The first $2,000 of cost associated with any combination of the following measures is eligible for incorporation into the work scope.

 Asbestos abatement or electrical service upgrade necessary to install the new heating/cooling unit.

• Upgrade of knob and tube wiring in order to install insulation.
• Radon and lead abatement work.
• The cost of removing an oil tank is eligible when done in connection with a heating system replacement.
• Repairs to the home due to water damage, molds and mildew, ice dams or other symptoms of poor building performance, as long as the cause(s) of building performance related damage are being addressed.
